Western
Union has renewed its Title Sponsorship of the Kingston &
St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) 2008 Jackie Bell
Knockout competition. The announcement was made at the
company’s headquarters in Kingston during a press briefing
today.
Sandra
Forbes, Marketing Manager, Western Union announced that
her company is proud to continue its partnership with
KSAFA for the fifth year in a row and will inject $2M
dollars in this year’s competition. Forbes also said that
‘the past four years have been a tremendous success;
giving our players the opportunity to continue showcasing
their talent”.
Rudolph
Speid, President of KSAFA thanked Western Union for their
continued partnership of the KSAFA Jackie Bell Knockout
competition. The prize monies he said will be distributed
as follows; 1st Place - $350,000; 2nd Place - $200,000;
3rd Place - $100,000 and 4th Place - $50,000, while all
participating teams will receive $5,000.
He also
announced that “for the first time in KSAFA’s history, a
partnership has been formed with TVJSN where they will
have exclusive coverage of the Jackie Bell Knockout, Super
League, Under 13, U15, U17 and U20 matches. Each week a
feature match will be selected and broadcast delayed on
TVJSN. The first of which will be August Town vs Santos
this Saturday, October 18, 2008 at the UWI Bowl commencing
at 3:00 p.m. when the competition will kick start”. Speid
urges all Jamaicans to “come out and support their
favourite clubs.
Other
matches that will be played on the day are Whitfield Town
vs Allman/Woodford; Stony Hill vs Shortwood, UTECH vs New
Kingston.
The KSAFA
Jackie Bell Knockout competition is in its 21st year and
is named in honour of the memory of a great Jamaican
sportsman Winthorpe ’Jackie’ Bell who died in a bus crash
along with fellow St. Georges College alma-mater Dennis
Ziadie at the World Cup finals of 1986 in Mexico. He was a
former National Coach STGC Manning Cup player, national
player, coach of Santos Football Club and president of the
Club.
The Jackie
Bell competition is contested by Corporate Area teams from
the Syd Bartlett, Major, Super and Premier Leagues.
Harbour View Football Club is the defending champion.
