Last year’s Inaugural Classic was very successful. We were able to initiate the scholarship for two students, one from Kingston College (KC) and the other from Calabar High School (C-Bar). The scholarship period for each recipient covers Grade Eight to Grade Thirteen inclusive. This year we will present scholarships to two more Grade Eight students, thus having four David “Wagga” Hunt Scholars for the Academic Year 2010 to 2011.

The corporate community has provided strong support. Most notably, Victoria Mutual Building Society has demonstrated its commitment to the scholarship programme by contributing funding to the full extent of one of the scholarships.

Proceeds from this year’s Classic, along with the expected additional sponsorship contributions, will go towards making it possible for us to continue to help these students each year, while honouring David Hunt’s name and the principles that guided his life.

David Hunt, a KC Old Boy, had a passion for football. He dedicated his life to the sport and was deeply committed to his players’ well-being both on and off the field. David was one of Jamaica’s foremost Track & Field analysts, the co-founder of Meadhaven Football Club, a former Jamaica National Under-17 coach, and a Manning Cup coach for both Calabar and KC. He led Calabar to both Manning Cup and Oliver Shield titles before his untimely passing in October 2007 from a heart attack.

The David “Wagga” Hunt Classic and the related Scholarship Programme are organized by members of David’s family and a Committee of friends and colleagues of David. Christopher Hunt, brother, and Arnold “Dullo” McDonald provide leadership to the work of the Committee.
