Women vs Logos Women at
Waterhouse Drewsland mini
stadium |
With the Michael Lowe and
Jacqueline Cowan combination, the All KSAFA women were brought
together to play the international contingent from the Logos
Hope female crew, primarily as an extension to the work of our
international guest and their community outreach engagements
which in fact is another shining example of how football can be
used as a tool for more than just business and fun. The match
took place on Saturday February 20,2010 at Waterhouse Drewsland
mini stadium.
The Logos Hope Ships began
their Ministry in 1970 as part of a global Christian training
and outreach movement, OM International. The parent body who
pioneered this pastoral crew has been traveling the world .
Since then, these ships have visited over 450 different ports in
more than 150 countries and territories and have welcomed some
37 million visitors on board their vessels.
The international crew and
staff of volunteers who live and work on the ships, form teams
which go into neighboring areas to supply aid and community care
in each port. In addition, the ship's crew joins with local
churches to bring hope and show love to people around whatever
their circumstance, culture or background.
The game while not the kind of
high quality football we were expecting, one could not ignore
the friendly spirit which prevailed throughout . The 4 -0 score
line at the end didn't seem to matter as this was certainly not
the objective, in fact the visitors were very gracious in
defeat, clearly they just came to have fun and they did. The
goals scored by Vanessa Ramsay, Nesa Ralph, Teishan Thomas and
Tashika Small did not put a damper on the spirit of the Logos
Hope team which had members drawn from Australia, Finland
,Mexico, Brazil, Germany, Italy, Hawaii, USA mainland and
England. The KSAFA Women’s team had players from six KSAFA clubs
viz Waterhouse Meadhaven, Constant Spring, Arnett Gardens ,Maverley/
Hughenden and Santos.
Having seen the All KSAFA team, one wonder what is really
happening to the female football program , noting that the girls
are not fit at the moment, I could not help seeing the under
developed technical and tactical competence level of some of the
best available at the moment, their physical size, pace and
determination were some of the more latent qualities that need
guidance.

What would be even more
productive is for the KSAFA Administration to put a development
program in place ASAP to keep the girls together, playing at
least one game per month with any team, locally or
internationally. This could also encourage other confederation
and parishes to follow suit and possibly start a national parish
or confederation competition in the near future. With a good
coach who will seek to address both team and individual
deficiencies, these girls can pioneer the new era of women’s
football in Jamaica.
Michael and Jacqueline made a
good first move now it is up to others who want to see football
progress and are willing to ignore the lack of money issue which
at times dampens our creativity.
