MAXFIELD WINS DELROY SEIXAS 30/30 FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

Tristan Seixas (left), the eldest son of Delroy Seixas, presented the Golden Boot gold medal to Kush's Earl Richie, the leading goal scorer at Sunday's Seixas 30/30 football memorial tournament at the Kingston Technical High School playfield in Vineyard Town.

Maxfield won the first annual Delroy Seixas football tournament by scoring a narrow 1-0 win over hosts Kush in the opening game, and a 0-0 draw with Christian Ambassadors to finish the event undefeated. Maxfield's Cory Morrison netted in the 30th minute to edge Kush 1-0, and Kush finished second after a convincing 5-1 win over Christian Ambassadors.

In the race for the three-team tournament Golden Boot prize, seven players were tied with one goal each and entered a penalty shoot-out with each player allowed two shots. Morrison (Maxfield), Phillip Brooks (Kush), Herbert Allen (Kush), Daniel Riley (Kush), and Leroy Campbell (Christian Ambassadors), all missed their two penalties. Marlon Campbell (Kush) and Earl Richie also of Kush both scored once, and entered a sudden death where Campbell struck the post while Richie scored to claim the leading goal scorer prize amid while cheers from the sizable crowd.

The organizers, Kush and the Kingston and St. Andrew Masters League Association (KSAMLA), vowed to keep the memories of Delroy Seixas alive by making the STEO 30/30 tournament an annual Boxing Day affair at the same venue.
