4.10.2011
– Constant Spring gained their first lien on the JNBS Peter
Cargill Cup with an easy 2-0 shutout win over Barbican in the
2011 JNBS Masters League mid-season final at Winchester Park
last Sunday.
Constant Spring pounced on
the defending champions early as striker Brenton Smith
clinically punished a Barbican defensive error with a fine
goal in the 4th minute for a 1-0 Constant Spring lead. The
early goal seemingly unnerved the triple-champions, and
instead of playing their patented patient passing game,
Barbican went with the long ball in an effort to reach their
league leading goal scorer, Denton Shedden.
Down 1-0 at the half, and
being outplayed in all sectors, Barbican continued to bypass
their midfielders with the long ball. In the 49th minute,
another Barbican defensive error was again punished, this time
by Garry Hylton, who sealed the 2-0 Cargill Cup win for
Constant Spring with a well taken goal.
It was Constant Spring's
second win over Barbican this season as they edged the
defending champions 2-1 in the league's opening game; the JNBS
champions cup.
In a curtain-raiser between
players over 45, KSAMLA Grand Masters blanked the Golden
League All Stars 2-0 in the first leg of the three game series
for the Harry Faulkner Cup.
After a very competitive 0-0
first-half, the KSAMLA Grand Masters took control of the game
and a 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute on a wonderful goal by
midfielder Patrick Watson (Police Nationals). The Grand
Masters dominated play thereafter, and increased their lead to
2-0 in the 72nd minute from the boots of David Jones
(Thunderbolts).

Faulkner Cup between the KSAMLA Grand Masters and the Golden
League All Stars with be the October 23 opening game at the
