Jamaican International Khari
Stephenson scores for SJ Earthquakes in 2-2 draw vs New York
Red Bulls at Stanford Stadium on Saturday July 02
Jamaican
International khari Stephenson scored his 3rd goal of the
season for San Jose Earthquakes on saturday night when he
fired home a rebound from New York Red Bulls Goalkeeper
Coundoul in the 37th minute from some 9 yards out in US Major
League Soccer(MLS).
Stephenson's fierce left
footed drive from within the 18 yard box gave the Red Bulls
goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul no chance as the ball rocketed into
the back net after Coundoul failed to hold onto a corner kick
from the left flank. That goal leveled the score at 1-1 after
the Red Bulls had taken the lead in the 7th minute with a Loel
Linpere goal from close range.
The Earthquakes took a 2-1
lead in the 68th minute through a Steven Lenhart header in the
penalty area. The Earthquakes lead evaporated in the 85th
minute when a shot by Red Bulls striker Joel Linpere from just
outside the 18 yards area, was headed into his own goal by
Centre Half Burling allowing the game to end in a 2-2 draw.
The game was played at the
Stanford Stadium in California and attracted a record crowd of
41,000 persons.
The drawn game has taken the
San Jose Earthquakes to 21 points from 16 games and sixth
place in the MLS Western Conference.
