Reggae Boyz Dane Richards beat his marker to get head on ball

Another dazzling display of possession and penetration by the Reggae Boyz’s prove too much for Guatemala to handle in their second group B Gold cup 2011 in Florida.

The dangerous Demar Phillips was very difficult to be controlled as he combines with other speedsters like Luton Shelton, Dane Richards while Eric Vernon blister the grass on the right side of the two acre plot carefully carving and dominating his small piece with some deaf runs down the flanks for which the Guatemalans could offer very little resistance in the second half of the encounter.

The first 45 minutes saw the reggae Boyzs playing as if they forget what they did on Monday against Grenada, There were lots of solo efforts by the Boyzs who clearly did not remember that 11 players does not necessarily make up a team, this clearly wasn’t going to be the way to beat the Guatemalans who offer some resistance to the reggae Boyzs solo effort and times look as if they were the on to break the deadlock in the 1st half.

The second half started with the Boyzs re-visiting Monday night’s performance against Grenada and started to possess the ball while sharing it as much as possible amongst themselves, this Possession and patience did prevail in the end, the truth is as long as your team is in possession of the ball your opponent cannot use it against you, this is the single most important concept of modern football our local base players need to understand, however the change from a more individualist football culture where the more skillful players are the ones seem to be getting all the recognition from the football authorities and most times this work against team football.

In minute 65 the former Waterhouse midfielder Demar Phillips receive a pass from substitute Omar Daley and with the finest of touch controls the ball on the run then firing home to the Goalkeepers left to put the Boyzs ahead, the Boyzs continued to possess the ball even though at times they did not have enough weight on the pass or they make one touch more than was necessary resulting in putting them under pressure from the very hungry Guatemalan forwards, the situation was even more scary when the ball was played to our Goal keeper who have nor learn anything from Victor Valdez and his foot skills, anyhow with all the excitement and the tension the Boyzs continue to possess the ball an in the 78 minutes Dane Richards made a workman like dribble then with a direct pass to the inform Phillips who made no mistake slapping a very powerful left footer past the Goalkeeper who had no answer to such powerhouse drive making it 2-0

As football hopeful we are expecting the Boyzs to train and continue to play possession football for the rest of the tournament and beyond, the improvements necessary to beat top class opponents lies in our seep of play and how we defend as a team, as one coach said it is too early to make a judgment on the teams future, the truth is they should learn from the Guatemalans experience, we play as individuals and we struggle, we play as a team and we succeed, To the BOYZS All SUCCESS CAN BE DUPLICATED, SO YOU HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO KNOW WHAT WORKS AND WHY IF WE ARE TO BE CONSISTENT.
