Santos Masters win 2011 Orville Edwards Memorial Football Festival

The Lyndon Dawes coached Santos Masters won the third renewal of the Orville Edwards Memorial football festival on Easter Monday, by defeating Real Mona Masters 3-0 at the Bell/Chung Oval. In the curtain raiser, Santos Under 20 and Real Mona Under 20 Teams played to 0-0 draw.

In the feature match, Dennis Ellis gave Santos Master the lead in the 13th minute after receiving a defense splitting pass from Clint Reid. Winston Pusey scored the second goal in the 26th minute, while former National Player Victor 'Keegan' Samuels got the third in the 40th minute. In the second half miss chances by former Tivoli and Arnett Garden Premier League player, Andrew Chisholm, former national players Nicholas Zaidie and Richard Murray, and also good goal keeping by former Camperdown and all Manning goal keeper, Nyron Prawl prevented Real Mona from getting back in the game. Andrew Chisholm also got a penalty in the 71st minute , which he kick on the cross bar.This was Santos Masters first hold on the Orville Edwards Trophy, as they were beaten 1-0 by Vere Masters in 2009 and 3-1 last year by Real Mona.

Former national goalkeeper Orville 'Tutus' Edwards, died from kidney failure at the age of 53 in August 2005. Edwards was Jamaica's and one of the Caribbean's top keepers during the 1970s and '80s. He was a member of the victorious Vere Technical High School team that won the daCosta Cup and Olivier Shield in 1968, 1969 and 1970, and also a member of Santos Football Club at the National League, KSAFA Major League and Master's League levels which rule local football from 1973 to 1980.
