RULES AND REGULATIONS CLARO CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

INTRODUCTION

The Champions League is a competition organized by KSAFA. This competition will commence in August of each year and will signal the start of KSAFA football year.

The teams eligible for participation in this competition shall be the winners of the previous season’s Super League, Major League, Syd Bartlett League, Jackie Bell Knockout Competition as well as the best placed KSAFA teams in the previous season’s JFF Premier League Competition.

Eight teams shall at ALL times participate in the competition. Teams that are unable to participate in the competition shall be replaced by the Competitions Committee on the following basis:

(a) The runner-up/second place team in each league or competition e.g. If the winner of the Super League is unable to participate then the second placed team may replace same in this competition, so shall it be with the Major & Syd Bartlett League and Jackie Knock-Out Competition.

(b) The structure of the competition shall see teams being divided into two zones, the winner and runner-up in each zone shall contest the semi-finals of the Champions League with the winner of the semi-finals advancing to the finals. Council reserves the right to amend the format from time to time.

EXTRA TIME & PENALTY KICKS

If there are no clear winner(s) after regulation time in the semi-finals & finals then extra time followed by penalty kicks if necessary shall be used to determine the winner of the final game.

EXTRA TIME

Fifteen minutes (15) minutes each half

AWARDING OF POINTS

Points shall be awarded as follows, three points for a win, a point for a draw and nil for a loss.

The scheme of play for the fixtures shall be decided and set out by the KSAFA Competitions Committee.

If two or more Clubs have equal number of points, the goal difference of the matches played by the teams shall be used to determine the places. If the goal difference is equal, the clubs having scored more goals shall be placed in the higher (highest) position.

If the clubs involved have scored the same number of goals, then the score of their direct match shall determine the higher position. If the clubs involved have scored the same number of goals in their direct match then the number of wins in the competition shall be used.

If the clubs involved have scored the same number of wins then the winner or higher positioned team shall be decided by drawing lots.

In the event of one or more teams pulling out of the tournament after two games of their fixtures have been completed, then a 3-0 win will be awarded to their remaining opponents.

COLOUR OF GEARS

Each team gear (shirt, short & socks) must be of a different colour of the opposing team.

(a) The home team must wear their registered colour.

(b) In the event of a clash of colour, the visiting team must change their gear; if the visiting team is unable to change; the home team must change.

(c) Teams are reminded that each goalkeeper must wear colours that distinguish him from the other players, the referee and the assistant referees.

(d) If both teams are unable to change, they shall be fined J$10,000.00 and referred to the disciplinary committee.

SCHEDULED and RESHEDULED MATCHES

The KSAFA Competitions Committee reserves the right to change time, venue and date of all matches. Teams will be given forty-eight hours notice except in the case of force majuere.

REGISTRATION

Teams will be allowed to register a total of 50 players.

A match is played by two teams, each consisting of not more than eleven players, one of whom is the goalkeeper. A match may not start if either team consists of fewer than seven players.

SUBSTITUTIONS

Up to a maximum of seven (7) substitutes may be used in any match played in this competition.

CAUTION FEES

All caution fees must be paid before the player(s) play(s) his or their next match, Clubs failing to adhere will lose the points for the match (es) in which the ineligible player(s) participated. The record keeping of yellow & red cards is the onus of the Club’s management.

The fees are as follows:

  • Yellow card - $500.00
  • Red Card - $900.00

Players receiving two (2) yellow cards in the preliminary round must miss the team’s next match;

TITLE AND TROPHY

The teams shall compete for the Claro Champions League Trophy:

The Trophy presented by the KSAFA shall remain the property of the KSAFA and shall be held by the Club winning the respective trophies for not more than twenty-eight days. The said Trophy shall be returned to the KSAFA within one month of being presented, the winning Club shall be given a replica of the Trophy. The Trophy shall be kept in good condition and proper care taken by the winning teams(s) to ensure their safe return to the KSAFA.

A Club failing to return the Trophy within the specified time and in good condition shall be fined Twenty Thousand Dollars ($20,000.00) by the KSAFA Competitions Committee and/or be referred to the Complaints and Disciplinary Committee for further action.

PRIZES

  1. Winner - J$250,000.00
  2. Runner-up - J$150,000.00
  3. Third Place - J$100,000.00
  4. Fourth Place - J$ 70,000.00

Note: The Competitions Committee reserves the right to change or amend the format of this Competition at anytime as deemed fit.

The Competition shall be governed in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of Kingston & St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA). Matches shall be played in accordance with the Laws of the game as determined by JFF/FIFA.
